I have a degree in my field and make great money. My future looks promising – but something keeps nagging and just doesn’t feel right.

Do you feel you just don’t measure up?

Whenever I get together with friends, all they talk about their newest promotion, their newest account acquisition, their world-wide business trips… Why is everyone else getting ahead and living their dreams?

Maybe to get ahead I need to be smarter, better looking, and thinner- then I will fit in. Maybe if I wore more stylish clothes, drove a nicer car, live in a bigger house where people would come over and party with me - that will make me good enough. Then I will be like everyone else and be accepted.

I think is a great idea – but what if everyone else disagrees?

Do you work hard to please or impress others?

I’m always trying to make my boss, spouse, friends, and/or family happy at any cost to me.

I want others to know how talented and/or intelligent I am so they will appreciate and respect me.

I keep hoping that what goes around comes around and someone will see how deserving I am (have pity on me) because I do so much for others.

I’m not sure what to do. So I just keep spinning my wheels and thinking about all I should do, and end up doing nothing and getting nowhere.

I come from a poor upbringing and I live in an undesirable area. I don’t have much money. I can’t go to college. People don’t accept people like me. I don’t have a chance.

Religion tells me I have a purpose in this life and I need to find it so I can follow a path and fulfill a plan. Am I spiritually deaf or what, because I feel completely lost in a fog and can’t figure it out.

I’m a magnet to people with issues. They are needy, looking for a hand out and their lives are full of drama - but I think I can change them.

Do you feel you just exist from day to day?

It’s the same thing every day. I get up, take care of the same responsibilities, work hard to get ahead – and I’m still in the same place I started - just looking forward to retirement.
